Spin-off created in june 2002, by the Animal Productions Department of the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Liege and by the Private sector, Coqard SA takes interest in animal production and is actually capitalized at a level of 217.000 € (82,49 % private and 17,51 % public). Actually, there are 3 commercialised products.

The chicken Coqard

It's a differentiated quality product from the Walloon terroir.

Chicken with a slow growth (84 days), fully reared in the Belgian Ardenne and fed with a 100% vegetal feeding, the CoqArd is issued from the Ardennese breed, local rustic breed selected for its organoloeptic qualities and its slow growth rate. The CoqArd presents an exceptional taste, close to venison and looses very few weight during cooking. This chicken proposes a nutritional equilibrium, that allows to decrease the triglycerides rate and to balance the good cholesterol one. Eventually, this equilibrium contributes to preventing cardio-vascular deseases and diabetic problems…

The Coqard is a recognised and protected label at regional level. All the actors of the channel acknowledge and follow a very rigorous specifications' contract.

The Coqoda rosted chicken

In the same spirit, in March 2004, the Coqard society developped a chicken with an intermediary growth (~52 days at killing). It is reared in France in full respect of the biosecurity and confinement rules. It is also fed with a 100% vegetable feeding. Its price is more affordable, due to its faster production mode.

The Coqoda offers an excelent taste, superior to the one of the fast growing chicken. Its excelent conformation is very good for carving. Its average weight is 1,300 Kg (1,050 Kg to 1,450 Kg). The consumption period for the Coqoda is maximum 9 days after slaughter.

It also needs a very rigorous specifications contract to be followed by all actors of the channel.

The Coq des Champs (Omega 3)

It is a Label Rouge breed selected for its organoleptic qualities and its slow growth.

The Coq des Champs is reared in small scale buildings (maximum 400 m²). In these buildings, the density is 11 chicken per m². At the end of the feathering, the Coq des Champs reaches a grassy and shady course where it benefits from a sufficiently big space to express its natural behaviour (2 m² per chicken). The Coq des Champs, chicken Omega 3, is 100% naturally fed with vegetables, minerals and vitamins. The feeding is guaranted without fat and flour from animal origin, as well as without antibiotic and growing factor. It is slaughtered after minimum 77 days in order to obtain an excelent maturity of the meat. It could be sold in RTE or in slenders with a consumption period of maximum 9 days after slaughter.

The society has just acquired another product, the "Coq de Pêche".

It's finally Coqard SA that ensure the final marketing of the whole production.
