The Bleue des Prés

It's a differentiated quality product from the Walloon terroir.

This product is born from the sudden awareness of the increasing import by the HORECA of foreign meats characterised by a very high intramuscular fat level. This was reflecting the demand from more and more consumers, who turn away from our classical production of Belgian Blue.

It was to recover the lost markets that the Bleue des Prés was developed; not for competing with the market of the Belgian meats. This production contributes as well in developing new activities for the fattening sector by leaving most of the animals in their Walloon region of origin, and by valorizing the acquis and the know how of our stockbreeders and fatteners.

The Bleue des Prés meat comes from Belgian Blue White type cows, 30 to 72 months old, having been for a minimum of 2 seasons on pasture and fed with locally produced cereals.

The meat is darker and its marbled structure allows for a more important intramuscular fat content, which gives back all its savour and gives also a very rich taste recognised by the restauration sector, and appreciated by the consumers. This meat could thus compete the imported ones.

During its finishing feeding, for a minimum of 90 days, its food contain poly-unsaturated acids Omega 3. These are then found in the meat. Through our feeding, this could thus bring its modest contribution to the improvement of our body balance of fat.

The production of the Bleue des Prés follows quality objectives through integration of energetic and mineral assessments, as well as the one associated with the soil's constituents. All the steps of the channel are under constant control and traceability over all the related elements and events through an independent control and certification organism.

The Bleue des Prés is a recognised and protected label at regional level. All the actors of the channel acknowledge and follow a very rigorous specification's contract . For each of the make's logo (presently 3), a graphic chart exists and must be respected by all users of the make.

The Bleue des Prés, presented for the first time on 4th December 2001 at the Horeca sector, is now available to every body. List of selling points Bleue des Prés .

Since September 2005, it's also sold in some CORA supermarkets (Chatelineau, Rocourt) under the name EXCELLENCE Omega 3.

Since the 5th May 2004, the Bleue des Prés could bear the make EQWALIS, following the certificate given by the APAQ-W for that purpose.

The PROANIWAL nfpa is the owner of the make BDP. It's therefore this one that, after discussion with all the different actors of the channel, takes most of the final decisions regarding that channel.
